Class 1.3 celebrated the last Geography class of the term by making their own pop-up volcanoes. They all managed to do this in under 40 mins which is a bit of a record as it has been known for some classes to make the activity last almost a week!

Merry Christmas & Happy 2014 from Clydebank Geography!
National 4 Glaciation Trip
National 4 Glaciation Trip
Only Clydebank Geography pupils would be hardy enough to head out on a field trip in the middle of December! Our tour took in a variety of glacial deposition and erosion features and also a variety of weather...it got a bit warmer when the sun finally came up...and by lunchtime it actually turned into a really nice day!
We stopped for lunch at the newly refurbished David Marshall lodge in Aberfoyle. After a brief survey of shops and facilities in the town we headed to Duncryne Hill for a bit of a walk and possibly one of the best views of Loch Lomond - it was well worth the climb.
We even managed to get back to school before the sun set as we know that Geography in the dark can be a bit tricky!

S3 Geography Trip to St Mirren
Football Club
We headed off to St Mirren Football Club in Paisley as part of our ‘Geography of Football’ course.
After visiting the site of the old Love Street stadium we were very
impressed with the new purpose built stadium. Our full guided tour took in the
changing rooms, kit room (those socks could do with a wee dab of Vanish!), trophy cabinet (there were a few spaces) and the
conference suite.
We were amazed by the range of different jobs and were very
impressed that the club has created a community hub for the area and it is not
just football that goes on there!
After a photo opportunity on the pitch with the League Cup
we discovered why the new site was chosen and the many benefits it has brought to
the club and surrounding area.
Our trip was rounded off with a kick-about in the new
£250,000 training dome - some took it a bit more seriously than others. The dome is is the only one of its kind in the UK at the moment .
Many thanks to everone at St Mirren for making us feel so welcome and especially to Ross for his fantastic tour guide skills.

S2 Orienteering - Mugdock Country Park
Our first excursion of the new term saw our brave S2 orienteers finding their way around Mugdock Country Park using their newly aquired map skills.
Some took the challenge to a whole new level and seem to have gone a bit 'Bear Grylls' once out in the woods. We're not sure if they hunted down their lunch or just survived on pocket rations (lots of sweets) but they did return completely covered in mud and bits of foliage....others preferred the relative safety of the play park after completing the course.
Well done to everyone for taking part!

Welcome back and a great big welcome to all our new S1 pupils at Clydebank High School!
This year's 'welcome' sandcastle is not quite as good as the creation from last summer (scroll down blog to compare if you have nothing better to do with your time). Clydebankgeography thinks this may be to do with the amount of water, grain size, bedrock, size of bucket and spade available and the fact that the temperature was a good 20degrees warmer this summer. Clydebankgeography moved north to a little village called Portmahomack to create the castle.
Anyway, this year we have plenty of trips, including a couple of new ones and a whole load of tourism based activities to get us out and about. Make sure you sign up early and make the most of the trips on offer!

River Trip 2 Friday 7th June
Our second S2 River Trip happened to fall on possibly the best day of weather this year (so far).
Pupils had a great time messing about in the river and recharged their batteries at lunchtime by sitting out of the brilliant sunshine for an hour eating enormous puddings!

S1 Amazonia Trip
The Geography Dept made the first trip of the year to 'Amazonia' at Strathclyde Country Park. S1 pupils had the chance to experience the heat of the rainforest and to meet a wide selection of rainforest creatures.
S1 Dynamic Earth
Our S1 trip proved very popular with pupils this year so we made 2 trips to 'Our Dynamic Earth' in Edinburgh to make sure that everyone had a chance to take part.
Check out the pictures in the Geography corridor boards and on the S1 link here on our blog.
